Hack In To Your Happiness

"For every minute you are angry you lose sixty seconds of happiness!"

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Happy Wednesday everyone! Today on the blog I'm going to share some details about a fantastic upcoming summit taking place from the 13-15th November 2014.

As you know a lot of what I try to cover on this blog is related to the benefits of work-life balance, happiness and achieving positive thinking within your professional and personal life. This event will cover all of these topics plus so much more, with experts on Productivity, Entrepreneurship, Psychology, Neuroscience and Healthy Living.

Exploring Human Potential, Performance and Wellbeing the aim of the event is to build upon the current trend towards greater self-understanding and empowerment.

The Hacking Happiness summit will consist of one conference day taking place at LSO St Luke's in London on Friday 14th November plus two days either side of satellite events across the city - including collaborations with various organisations ranging from Google to Triyoga.

The idea behind Hacking Happiness, a small start-up based in Islington, is to build a platform for the best minds to share tools and insights that aim to make life a little better - to unlock your full potential.

There will be a fantastic range of speakers to tune into on the conference day including amongst others: Darya Rose - Neuroscientist and Founder of Summer Tomato, Laurence McCahill - Founder of The Happy Startup School, Levi Felix - Founder of The Digital Detox (the UK version of which I recently wrote about here), Rohan Gunatillake - Founder of Mobile App Buddify and Adriana Lukas - Founder of Quantified Self, London.

So if you want to learn how to work more productively, understand your mind and live more healthily and you can get yourself down to London on the 14th of November then the most exciting news is that as a reader of TheWhatNowBlog you can get an exclusive 30% off of your ticket price. All thanks to the lovely Hacking Happiness team - read more from them on the subject in their brilliant blog post.

As mentioned there will also be a number of satellite events on the 13th and the 15th of November taking place at various places across the city. These will include an Entrepreneurship Forum at the Google Campus, an Introduction to Mindfulness from Mindful London and a high intensity workout with Psycle in Marylebone. To find out more about what's on offer and to reserve your place see the full list here.

I'll be going along to the conference and reporting back here on the blog in a few weeks time so for those of you unable to get involved but interested in what is on offer, tune in to find out more about what happens on the day as I come back and share with you any useful tips and tricks that I pick up.

Farewell for today - grab your tickets soon if you can make it, and tune in tomorrow for some more exciting WhatNowBlog news and goings on.

Happy Hump Day!

What A Wicket Idea!

Good morning everyone and Happy Monday! Welcome to another week on TheWhatNowBlog and I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.

Now I don't want to freak everyone out but do you realise that coming up fast around the corner, with just 72 days to go, is that wonderful festive time of year known as Christmas?!

It's becoming more apparent as you wander down the high street with the festive spirit gradually seeping into the shop displays and windows and very subtle offers and ideas starting to creep into our minds.

Over the next month or so I have a few great ideas to show you that might inspire your gift buying choices for the festive season. I hope to try and bring you a variety of different choices with a special focus on the people that it can be quite hard to buy for.

The one thing that I always find difficult when it comes to buying gifts for occasions such as this is what to get the men in my life. Not only that but when it comes to buying gifts for work colleagues, perhaps after everyone putting money into a kitty for a birthday or leaving gift, it can often be really hard to buy something memorable for certain people. Having the responsibility for buying a gift where you work can really be a bit tricky! For that very reason, when my husband sent over the link for the lovely website that I am going to talk about today I immediately knew I wanted to feature them here on this blog.

So if you're having a little lull in your day, feel like taking a quick break and want to get a head start on your seasonal shopping then why not have a little browse of the excellent Wicket Ideas website.

I love the idea behind what this venture are doing. Making unique and innovative gifts out of popular and classic sports equipment by finding new ways to craft them into useful, attractive and bespoke household objects. All pieces are individually handcrafted and you would be hard pushed to find something so unique just down the road in your local shop.

For men especially I think the selection is fantastic and would certainly please a lot of Dads, Uncles and other male relatives that I know. However I think there are lots of lovely things for everyone to enjoy especially sports fanatics. Plus for the dog and wine lovers (me!) take a look at the lovely dog beds and dog water bowls crafted out of discarded wine boxes.

These gifts are great and made by such a friendly team of craftsmen based in Hampshire. They will even take on the challenge of making something bespoke for you out of your own old sports equipment with its own special memories. Giving you something to treasure and keep instead of stashing it away in the garage or somewhere equally unglamorous, gathering dust and being forgotten.

Primp Up Your Office

Happy 1st of October everyone! I thought today for this new month it would be fitting to take a look at having a revamp of your work space.

Quite often when you decide to suddenly start working from home you just kind of start doing it. You don't necessarily have the luxury of an office space or even that much room to work in.

I'm very lucky that we have a spare room at the top of our house that I've been able to squeeze a desk and a computer into - stopping me from stooping over a laptop all day and altogether much better for my back(ish!) but even so I still find myself daydreaming about a dream office space.

We all hear about these fancy office spaces in the city with pods, table tennis, slides and all sorts! Well I dream of a nice airy, bright white office space with all sorts of smart trimmings, bright lights and other picturesque inspiration. In fact I spend a little bit of that daydreaming time pinning my ideas onto my Dream Office Pinterest board just incase I need a landscape of prettiness to refer back to one day. That's when I'm busy procrastinating away!

So the other day when an email popped up in my inbox from the very lovely Lu over at Let's Go Hme well I just couldn't resist taking a quick sneaky peek!

The Let's Go Hme shop has recently launched and it has some really pretty and affordable accessories that of course would be great for styling your home but, I also think would do a pretty good job of sparkling up the average office space.

I particularly love the look of their pretty cushions which I think would quite simply and quickly perk up even the dullest of rooms. Plus I've kind fallen in love with the wall butterflies pictured above - I know they might not be particularly functional but they would certainly brighten up a dull space in a very simple way.

I also don't think I'd be able to resist popping one of the lovely looking mugs on my desktop to make me feel a little chirpier! The castle print one below is pretty cool - I could see me sipping my daily tea quota out of that quite happily.

In fact Lu is a pattern and print designer and this very design along with a lot of the other beautiful prints you see on the products is one of her own - lovely.

So anyway as I spend the rest of my day going off into my own interior inspired spaced out little world I will leave you with some very exciting news.

Let's Go Hme have very kindly offered to give you my lovely readers a special 25% off of all online orders placed during the month of October. Just visit their website and upon checkout quote the code: WHATNOW25 to apply your special discount.

The offer expires on Friday 31st October and is only while stocks last - but go on take a peek and see if anything takes your fancy. Who knows by the time Autumn is fully upon us you could be all nice and cosy in your newly smartened and primped office space tapping away at your computer surrounded by bright new inspiration.
