So this post is a little later than planned in reaching you, apologies, it's been one of those weeks! However in honour of Get Walking Week I wanted to write about a recent and very lovely dog walk that Dan and I embarked on around Virginia Water in Surrey.
Get Walking Week for 2014 has been running since the 3rd of May and ends this Saturday the 10th of May. It's an initiative of Ramblers UK and is a short walks festival designed to help the nation discover the wonder of walking.
As a keen dog walker I rely on the benefits of regular daily walks as one of my main and most consistent forms of exercise and daily fresh air! It keeps me active even during the rainiest and gloomiest of months and for all those of us who spend a large proportion of their time sat at a desk I can't emphasise enough how important it is to get moving on a regular basis.
Windsor and it's surrounding areas offer an abundance of beautiful leafy locations in which to take a well needed stroll.
Virginia Water is just one of those areas that has an awful lot to see and some great routes around the Royal Landscape of Windsor Great Park for people to follow.
As you can see there are many interesting things to discover on the Virginia Water route, from waterfalls to ruins, the beautiful lake, totem poles and much, much more.
There is ample parking available although do be aware that it gets very, very busy at the weekends and bank holidays especially in the warmer months. Expect to wait a little while for a space, for food at any of the local pubs and don't anticipate that you will have the park and all of its wonders to yourself during these times!
I also highly recommend visiting and losing yourself in the beautiful Valley Gardens for a while, the beautiful haven where the last three of my photos above were taken.
With a serious abundance of astounding flora and fauna these beautiful and peaceful gardens will keep you in awe for hours and are really worth spending some time in.
So if you're guilty of being a little sedentary at times and you know you need to embrace a more active lifestyle then why not look up some local walks in your area and venture out and about for a little exploration! You never know just what you might find and will soon reap the benefits of getting yourself moving.
Enjoy this beautiful landscape and GET WALKING!
