Standing At The First Post
Welcome and thank you for joining me on my first and perhaps slightly nervous foray into the exciting world of blogging.
I wanted to begin by giving you the reader (I’m optimistic that someone other than me might actually read this!) a little bit of information about myself, my idea and vision for this blog and the reasons behind why I have decided to go on this new journey.
So lets begin and I guess we’ll see what happens ….
My name is Louise and I begin this blog as I hurtle perhaps a little too quickly (for my liking) towards my mid-thirties with the sudden realisation that I still don’t have the foggiest idea quite what I really want to do with my life! Honestly I hate to admit this but I’m afraid that it’s true. Don’t get me wrong I’ve had some great roles, learned a lot and met some great people along the way so far, but right now I’m a bit stuck and searching for a bright new career idea!
Plus I've come to suspect and understand that I am by far not the only one who feels or has felt this way.
Recently it dawned on me that maybe my time wondering about what to do next could be spent more productively looking deeper into the world of work (heck we all spend the majority of our lives doing it) and discovering just what else there is to offer out there.
So many friends say to me that they aren’t happy doing what they're doing, or that they're still trying to figure out exactly what they want to do. Yes I know we have to pay the bills and work to survive and sadly we can’t all do exactly what we ‘love’ but isn’t it worth trying to find some sort of balance if possible? I have friends who have taken the brave choice to change careers despite having put a lot of time, training and energy into their already successful initial path. I admire their bravery but how did they do it – how did they know they were making the right choice? Plus with the current climate and rising unemployment, risk taking seems a little extra scary and maybe rather over-indulgent.
Hence the idea for this blog started to trickle into my mind. While I ponder my own next move why not look for some inspiration in the lives of others and just what makes them tick.
By no means do I expect this blog to become the official written word in how to plan your future in the world of work. I just hope to provide a little insight and inspiration, document some of the highs and the lows that we all face, maybe tackle some of the current hot topics facing the working world (although I do not profess to be an expert in any of these areas) and alongside will add in a dash of lifestyle, style and travel where it seems fit in order to balance out the working day with something a little different. Things that I hope will inspire people alongside the events of their working day.
I'm very passionate about finding your work-life balance and enjoying life whilst still pursuing your career. Ok - so maybe we can't 'have it all' but I think we're gradually coming to realise that in this digital age we can't keep ourselves switched on 24-7 and expect to remain happy and healthy. This means you will also find me writing regularly about trying to understand and find that balance with some ideas on just how it might be achieved!
This is so totally new to me that I will be learning everyday so bear with me if it takes time to get a handle on this blogging thing! However I’m so very excited to give it a go and hope that maybe I will learn something useful along the way. Plus if I can inspire anyone else even in just the smallest of ways then that’s all the very better as well.
So let's get started and see what happens ...
